Sufjan Stevens Invites You To: Come On Feel the Illinoise
Muito bem, mais um album conceitual ? Essa coisa é antiga mas a criatividade é infinita. Ainda bem, ainda existe gente que pensa multidimensionalmente. Existe um sentimento de desprezo pelo conhecimento quando valoriza-se o esforço pessoal, pensamento este que vai na contra-mão do pensamento capitalista em que fomos (pelo menos eu fui) criados. Hoje valoriza-se o que se ouve por aí (e que dizem ser música) com a justificativa que é música "de raiz" (que nada tem com tradição cultural). Este compositor, branco, nascido em Detroit com nome iraniano (que significa "vem como uma espada") criou esta jóia na primeira década do milênio. Um insuflar de esperança no mundo musical. É claro que esse disco não vendeu como o "Thriller" mas é bom o suficiente para estar entre os melhores do milênio até agora. Este é o segundo album do projeto (fake) dos 50 estados americanos : um album por estado ! O primeiro chama-se "Greetings from Michigam". E como aquele, esse disco nos traz aspectos históricos, lendas urbanas, notícias de jornal e lembranças do compositor do seu estado natal (veja os links nos títulos das músicas). Navegando por diversos estilos e formas musicais (ele é oboísta erudito por educação formal e toca banjo por gosto) o disco traz influências minimalistas de Philip Glass e Steve Reich até "empréstimos" do The Cure (em "Close to me") ! O tom é de um contador de histórias. A história pode ser a mesma mas o que atrai é como é contada. E ele se utiliza de bandas marciais, corais, quarteto de cordas ... Houve um problema de direitos autorais na capa por usar o Super-Homem (ele aparece pois existe uma cidade chamada Metropolis em Illinois) e o mesmo foi retirado das prensagens seguintes. O mais é ouvir o album, isso é música "de raiz".
